I'm somewhere between other posters and Harnk. Granted, while the Ride and Slowdive are epics worthy of spreading like gospel, this is a bit excessive. Please don't bite my head off, I'm on the fence about this whole thing, because while I realize that there's often no other way for people to hear these artists, and am all for free distribution methods, I am becoming sickened by the mass proliferation of it. It's gotten to the point where a person could buy a computer and feasibly never have to pay a penny for all the music they wanted for life. And downloading isn't even that old, if it continues at this rate, in twenty years artists will only be able to make money with merchandise and concerts, and god knows they don't even get all that money. I don't like biting the hand that feeds me, and while the poster of this thread may think that refers to them, it in fact refers to the artists.

Would a huge post of Elephant 6 albums be acceptable? Originally posted by Half-Handed I agree with Harnk - just like posting Sparks albums ad infinitum this just robs your favourite musicians of hard earned cash. Although for all I know some of these shoegaze records may no longer be available in which case I guess it's a different story. Everything i have posted is out of print. None of it has recently been reissued on cd. Therefore, in order to buy a copy you would have to buy it used. And in the case of lps, slowdives souvlaki and all the ride lps go for over $150.

You dont have any way to financially support the band anymore. If they wanted more money they would repress the stuff. It is better to download it for free than to pay some opportunist big bucks. Originally posted by typewriters it is better to download it for free than to pay some opportunist big bucks Absolutely! Maybe I'm just old, I remember sitting in my friend's bedroom (smoking our first j's) listening to Ride's 'Nowhere' like it was yesterday, maybe I'm just unaware that it's out of print. It's certainly a classic (possibly unknown to younger audiences) possibly worthy of posting even if it weren't oop, it's just a very grey area, again I don't think 'Going Blank Again' is oop, but where to draw the line between sharing unheard gems and making them permanently free? If you're only posting oop albums, ignore everything i said before and go for it.

And i don't want to sound preachy about the whole thing, it's just an issue most people don't take the time to think about.
